Day 8 Longrono to Nejarra
Set off a bit earlier than usual, at 6am as there was a longer than usual walk ahead.
Today’s walk was 30ks and a hot day was predicted.
I had a bit of a hiccup as I ran out of water at about 12k. Unusually there were no small villages or water fountains along the way. With about 3k to go, I was getting a bit stressed and dehydrated.
I was about to knock on the door of a lovely home with a beautiful garden and ask for water. But getting closer, I could see they had put a water fountain near their front gate with a sign welcoming pilgrims to use what water they needed. I could have cried I was so happy and so thankful to these thoughtful people.
I must take a lesson from this and remember to take extra water, now that the mountains are far behind and the hot weather is here.
I did love the walk today, being a bit longer. However, it was probably the least spectacular day so far. Walking was through a grape growing area. I was very surprised to see that grapes could be grown on the heavy clay and very rocky soil. It was also obvious that water is very precious to the farmers in this area.
We are staying in an albergue that has 86 bed in one dormitory. This could be interesting.
