Life is very good for me at the moment and has been for a few years now. I’m enjoying my job, I’m back on the bike again, back in the pool, and my personal life is great. Reflecting on what’s been going right for me, I’ve been thinking about what makes me happy.ย At the stage of life I’m at, being happy is very important to me. These days, I’m very hesitant to do anything that doesn’t make happy.
So, I’ve come up with the following list. I haven’t mentioned family and relationships on this list, as it goes without saying that my partner, my family and my grandchildren make me happy. This list is about things other than family and relationships.
The list below, is just that – a list – with no explanation at all. If feel that each happiness point is self explanatory.
10 Things That Make Me Happy
Sitting on verandah with a cuppa, watching my chooks.
Night out dancing and having fun with my special friends
Spending time with my dogs
Early mornings in my home gym
Cycling both indoors and outdoors
Researching my family history
Blogging
Bushwalking
Swimming laps
Spending a whole day in the garden.
What makes you happy? Are any of my happiness points on your list? I’d love to hear what you have to say, and promise to reply to all comments.
I love posts like this that let you see what you have in common with other bloggers. I also love spending time with my dogs and researching family history. Glad I found you over at #MLSTL
Thanks for visiting Evelyn and thanks also for your comments.
That sounds like a great list. I’ve always wanted to have a few chickens. One day… ๐
I hope you get to have your chickens one day Kristin.Theyre great. Thanks for visiting
I have just subscribed to your blog, realising you are another Aussie blogger…how did I know? I think we are the only ones who call hens, ‘chooks’.
I liked your list.
I have begun to prefer the word contentment over happy. It is just a semantics thing to some but for me, it lasts longer than the ‘happy’.
What I do or what helps me feel content..is becoming more comfortable with my now retired and still getting over cancer self. To do that, I take more time outside (love being there), do some blogging and social media because that is where I connect daily, go for a coffee each day, choosing what to wear to ‘feel and look good’ and I am now giving back.
I have started teaching a mindful mandalas class at the local library & hope to run it as a wellness program for cancer patients. I also make bookmarks from my art designs to donate to a charity sending gift boxes to cancer patients.
Great to get to know you more here. Come on over and see what I am up to when you can.

It’s the simple things that makes us happiest , I’m sure Denyse. Your mandalas class sounds fantastic. You seem to fit so much into your life. I love the word ‘chooks’ and have had many laughs with my American friends over the word. Thanks for visiting and sharing. About to visit you very soon
Hi Jen, I’m so happy to hear that you are happy and life is good! So many little things make me happy but I think spending time with Ethan and Elliot fills me with such joy and happiness that those times would top my list. Thanks for spreading the happiness at #MLSTL and have a great week. xx
Sue I agree, you really can’t go past the happiness of grandchildren. They are a joy. Great to have you home safely
This post made me happy. Thanks Jennifer. Some of the other things that make me happy…pumpkin chocolate chip cookies homemade by my sister, singing “Good morning to you” each morning with my teenage grandson (the fact that he still sings with his grandma), spending time in nature…just to name a few. #MLSTL
We have so much to be thankful and happy about Christie. I love your loves. Thanks for visiting
What a great list Jennifer! Iโm happy reading a book in my lovely sunroom in the garden, blogging, enjoying a chat with friends and sometimes gong nothing at all. #mlstl
I’d be happy also Deb, reading a book in your sunroom. I can understand that. Thanks again for visiting
I’m so glad that you’re in a good place right now, and the things you mention are certainly happiness pleasers. I’m not doing enough exercise, but then exercise only really makes me happy AFTER I’ve done it as I’m a bit of a slug truth be known! I’m with you on having a nice cuppa on the stoep, I love watching rain and smelling it’s aroma coming off concrete, I love spending time with my family, I adore blogging and yikes … social media (why?), and I love connecting with women over 50 all around the world. #MLSTL
I love your inclusions Jo especially rain on concrete. I could smell it as I read the words. Thanks for visiting
Cycling outdoors, blogging, spending a day in the garden — would be on my list plus a few more. Thanks for the uplifting blog just before I head to bed. #MLSTL
Thanks for visiting Janet. Pleased you enjoyed the list
I love that these are all such simple pleasures Jennifer. I think if we stop waiting for the big stuff and start appreciating all the little things, then happiness just creeps up on us and so does contentment. I really liked your list and will start thinking of what would be on mine.
MLSTL and I’ve shared this on my SM ๐
Thanks Leanne. I’ve got no interest anymore in the ‘big’ things. It’s the small things that get me excited these days.
Listening to waves lapping on the shore and bonfires under starlight. ๐
Good list
#MLSTL
They are both great Sonia. Thanks for visiting
So, as an American, I had to look up what chooks were. But I love your list. Simple pleasures are wonderful. I like working on family history too. It’s like putting together a puzzle and I love doing puzzles.
Leah I forgot that my American friends don’t understand the word ‘chooks’. We have had many laughs over the word I love the title of your blog and will pop over to check it out. Thanks for visiting.
My neighbor is Australian so I’m down with chooks. ๐ It’s a great word. I love this list. I guess mine would be a little different — but spending time with my dogs (which is most of the time) makes me very happy.
Thanks for visiting Martha. I usually forget until a reader comments, that chooks isn’t a universally known word. Pleased to hear you understand.
Woh I love your posts, bookmarked!
