Well, it seems I finally have found my enthusiasm again, which has been missing since finishing The Camino de Santiago in Spain. Regular readers would have read my whinges here previously, about needing to find a goal that would get me firing on all cylinders again, and not being able to come up with anything. Well at last an inspiring goal/event has found me. I have joined a team for Sydney Coastrek in March 2016. Officially the 24 week training program for the event, starts on August 30, but until then I’m fired up to do my own program, gradually increasing my distances to 10k by the start date
My first biggish goal will be the 7 Bridges Walk in Sydney on Sunday October 25. This has me quite excited. I did this walk, which is 27k, two years ago, and really loved it. It was the event that confirmed in my mind, that yes I was capable of walking the Camino. Since then, these old legs of mine have walked 1000ks in 6 weeks, so I’m just hoping they are still capable of walking long distances.
So, this week, since making the commitment, I have walked every day, starting at 5.5k and increasing the distance daily to the 12k walked today. A distance of 12k probably sounds a bit pathetic, after the distances that I walked last year in training for the Camino, but as I have been concentrating on the bike lately, and really haven’t done any biggish walks at all. I need to start over almost at the beginning.
But I’m hoping that muscle memory will kick in, and that I will be back to doing those long walks again in super quick time.
That’s the plan anyway. Will let you know how that goes.
Can’t wait to follow your progress Jen xx
Thanks Brenda. I’m enjoying watching your training also
