April A-Z Challenge – C for Centre of Victoria

I am back again for the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge so have made the commitment to blog every day in April except the Sundays. Some bloggers choose a Theme, and others do random posts. For me, a theme works better, so the theme  I’ve chosen for 2016 is Bendigo.  I live just outside Bendigo and have been in this area for only 9 years, so feel I still have ‘visitors eyes’.

C is for the Centre of Victoria, which is just 10 kilometres outside the Bendigo CBD, at the intersection of Pentlands Road and Hallidays Road in a rural area called Mandurang.  It is very close to the Mandurang United Church, which is no longer in use.

The centre  is marked by a rock with a plaque, and is calculated to be the geographical centre point of the state by  Geoscience Australia, which is the Government mapping agency.

The location is 36° 51′ 15″ South, 144° 16′ 52″ East

I came across this marker by accident, shortly after I moved to Bendigo, when bike riding and stopping on the side of the road to mend a puncture. After that, I would stop there often for a quick breather, when on a long ride. For some reason, I find this spot to be very peaceful.
