I am back again for the Blogging from A to Z April Challenge so have made the commitment to blog every day in April except the Sundays. Some bloggers choose a Theme, and others do random posts. For me, a theme works better, so the theme I’ve chosen for 2016 is Bendigo. I live just outside Bendigo and have been in this area for only 9 years, so feel I still have ‘visitors eyes’.
E is for the Easter Festival, formerly known as the Easter Fair which has been held annually in Bendigo every year since 1871. The highlight of the procession, for many decades, is the Easter procession where the longest dragon in the world Sun Loong is the main attraction.
The Chinese community are a big part of the Easter celebrations in Bendigo. They came to Bendigo during the goldrush and many stayed. Today, generations later there are many descendants still living in Bendigo. There is also a popular torchlight procession.
Other than the main attraction of the processions and Sun-Loong, there are many community events and markets happening in many areas of the city.
Anyone wanting to visit Bendigo, during Easter, would be advised to book accommodation early.
