Autumn Bucket List

Recently, I read a blog post written by Leslie who blogs at Once Upon a Time & Happily Ever After titled The Why Behind Creating Seasonal Bucket Lists.

I f you click on the previous link, you can read all about why Leslie thinks a seasonal bucket list is a good idea. Leslie was actually writing about her spring bucket list, but as we are in the southern hemisphere, of course it is my autumn bucket list. As a person who loves writing lists, this idea really appeals to me, so I’ve decided to write my own Autumn bucket list.

Autumn is my favourite month of the year. Even though I love summer, it’s always such a relief when autumn arrives, with it’s crisp early mornings and cooler nights. I love the crunch of autumn leaves and the beautiful array of colours they bring. The last blooming of roses is always a joy in autumn.

We are, of course, in challenging times at the moment, as we deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, but I’m not going to lose the plot and panic completely. We are doing all we can here to keep ourselves healthy and safe. Other than going to work, we plan to just stay at home, as the government is advising us to do.

For me, staying at home, isn’t really a hardship. I love being at home and especially out in the garden. There are so many jobs around the house and the garden in autumn, that it can sometimes be overwhelming. The ‘stay at home’ rule is an opportunity to get some of these jobs done.  This is where the bucket list comes in.

There will be less fitness related things on the list, than I would usually have, due to still being in rehab for my knee injury. But it’s coming along and I can see now that it won’t be long until I get back on track. Family visits have been put on hold, as for me, they involve air travel.  Hopefully at the end of autum, everything on my list will be crossed off. I’ve already had to cross off a few ‘out and about’ things on the list due to escalation of the pandemic, so this list will focus on home.

My Autumn Bucket List

Garden

Spread manure onto the garden beds, fruit trees and veg garden

Spread straw onto the garden beds, fruit trees and veg garden

Purchase native plants for side garden

Order roses, perennials and geraniums from catalogues

Plant perennials in front, side and clothesline garden

Plant annuals in clothesline garden

Complete new part of succulent garden

Plant winter vegies

Make new herb garden

Make new strawberry garden

Fix up native garden on slope

Plant perennials and pansies in clothes line garden

Feed and fertilise citrus

Take lavendar cuttings

Trim summer flowering plants

Trim dead branches from lime and lemon trees

Purchase hothouse

Upgrade fox-proofing of the chicken coop

Set up old bath to be garden for water iris

House

Tidy my wardrobe

Tidy pantry

Check out new kitchen costs from suppliers

Tidy Study

Re-organise spare bedroom

Genealogy

Re-organise workspace

Organise family files from folders, into filing cabinet

Complete tasks from Scottish2020 conference

Start digitising photos and documents

Complete Family History Downunder Ambassador duties

Fitness

Get back on bike, after injury

Ride part of O’Keefe Rail Trail

Strength training on track

Two RPM cycling classes each week

Start with short recovery walks

At a quick glance my bucket list looks huge, but many of the jobs are small, and spread over 30 days as they are, they are definitely do-able.  Almost everything on my bucket list is a job to be done. There’s no out and about fun. This is because we are keeping ourselves at home, due to covid-19. Hopefully, it’s not too long before all the fun things and outings can appear on the next bucket litst.

    I love little things that add up to big things. There’s something so satisfying about a tick in the box – regardless of the chunkiness of the task.

    Hi Jennifer – you should be able to tick off a lot of the “at home” items over the next few weeks – and probably a few fitness and blogging ones too while you have more time on your hands. I don’t have a bucket list – I’m just enjoying being in my own space and focusing on the positives that I find in amongst the chaos and fear that CV-19 is generating around me. I bet you’re enjoying being able to live in the peace of your off-grid home when you’re not at work.

    A great list of things that are achievable Jennifer and I’m sure you can get through them over the next weeks/months. I’ve set up a rough timetable for my days and am enjoying having the structure. I’ve got into yoga classes on line and am enjoying a new activity. I’m also reading and enjoying the lovely autumn sunshine. It’s indeed strange times ahead and I wish you well. #mlstl

    Hello Jennifer! Thanks for sharing your bucket list. I hope we will be seeing pictures of the garden along the way. It’s wet and cool here right now, but it will be time to plant before too long. We don’t have much of a garden, but I do love watching the plants grow. This pandemic has really changed the nature of our lists, but sometimes tightening our focus is a good thing.     Wow! Great list Jen and that will keep you busy throughout Autumn for sure. You have plenty on the list to help you survive lock down during the CV crisis as well. I like to make mini goals like this and relating them to the season helps us to be a little more creative with our list of what we would like to achieve.
