Eat Healthy for Life Days 3 & 4/7

April 23, 2020 By nextphaseinfitness 2 Comments

I’ve been following Sue’s 7 Day Eat Healthy for Life  challenge at her blog Sizzling Towards Sixty. This program is just a short reboot to kick off healthy eating habits for life. Most importantly, this is not a diet. Rather, it is a short one week plan to kick start healthy habits for life

Day 3

The topic for the video on day 3 was the discussion about food groups and why it’s important to eat all colours. I posted a while ago about  Traffic Light Nutrition System of eating.

There was also discussion about the foods we should be eating to boost our immune system and reduce inflammation. I was really interested in this, as I seem to have had inflammation injuries over the past couple of years. The one food group that I don’t eat from as much as I should is fish which is a food that should be included on an anti inflammatory diet. I love fish and could eat it every day, if I lived closer to the sea. I usually try to eat food that has minimum food miles, so tend to eat fish only about once a week. My plan is to try to no longer be paranoid about that, and eat fish more often.

Another food necessary when trying to reduce inflammation is leafy green vegetables. I am confident that I eat enough fresh greens, as we have them growing in our vegie garden. At the moment, we are eating silverbeet, bokchoy, zucchini and snow peas from the garden. My plate seems to be piled high with green most nights.  Lately, I don’t seem to be able to get enough of them. I think my body is crying out for healthy greens after an Easter spent eating chocolate, which is very inflammatory.

Day 4

Day 4 is the day that Sue tackled the subjects of macros and micros, fats and fibre. I do get a bit confused about macros and micros so was looking forward to this video to hopefully get some information to help me understand the subject better. Sue had a guest for this topic, Wendy Hodge fromWendy’s Way to Health.

Wendy and Sue were both able to explain these topics in understandable terms making the topic seem quite straight forward. I have a much better idea of macros and micros now. I had a good understanding previously about fats and fibre and their importance. Many people think they should cut out all fats to have a healthy diet. But the body needs a small amount of healthy fats such as olive oil, avocado and nuts.

Paleo Inside Out Bread

This Recipe is amazing. It’s so healthy and full of goodness. Sarah Wilson of I Quit Sugar fame devised the recipe. I came across it in one of her cook books many years ago.  It’s packed full of healthy goodness from all food groups, and keeps me feeling full for hours.

Because I’m committed to keeping to the copyright laws, I haven’t included the recipe here but there is a link below where you will find the full recipe
