Even though the Camino was almost two years ago, I still can’t seem to shake off the restlessness. Lately, again, I’ve been thinking about what exercise challenge is next for me, so I’ve been googling and generally, just looking around. I’ve come up with a couple of things that call to me and have me dreaming. I’m not sure that I will ever do some of these epic hikes or treks but they will be on my bucket list. I’m also open to options closer to home this time.
Mt. Kilimanjaro has piqued my interest lately. As any regular reader be aware, since my trek of over 1000 kilometres on the Camino de Santiago I have been struggling to find a hike or trek that gets me excited. Well I think I may have found it. I came across a trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the more I think about it, the more it seems to me, that this could be it.
Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest free standing mountain in the world, is on the border of Tanzania, Africa. The elevation is 5895m. It is not a long trek, like the Camino, but I know it will definitely be a huge challenge. Especially, as I am not as fit just now, as I was for the Camino.
I came across TrekFit Australia on Facebook. They are a trekking company, based in Beechworth, who have a trek to Mt. Kilimanjaro in September this year. I won’t be able to do the trek in 2016, but will contact them to ask if they do this trek every year. Hopefully they do, and if so, 2017 will be the year I trek to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
