Excellence Series: Lisa Stephenson

August 22, 2020 By nextphaseinfitness 12 Comments

The Excellence Series is another of Craig Harper’s amazing events. Due to the times we are living at the moment, the event is virtual. Having a virtual event is much more convenient for me, as I’m two and a half hours away from Melbourne where they are usually held. The Excellence Series is a series of four highly respected thinkers, educators, motivators and speakers. They are also regular guests on Craig’s podcast,
The You Project.

I love this podcast and never miss an episode. Over the years, I feel as though I’ve come to know these guests well, so spending a couple of hours with them, in the comfort of my own home felt like an honour. The event is held over four weeks, with one speaker each week.

Lisa Stephenson

“Touted as ‘one of the most influential, authentic coaches in the game’, Lisa Stephenson is the Founding Director of Who Am I Projects, author of Read Me First, and one of Australia’s foremost success coaches.
As a writer, keynote speaker, success coach and CEO, Lisa’s core purpose is to guide others in navigating and mastering their most critical project – themselves. From high-pressure boardrooms to public auditoriums, Lisa has earned a reputation for her unmatched curiosity, intuition and ever-compassionate approach”. – www.craigharper.net
Lisa is the founder of Who Am I Projects which is one of Australia’s  leading coaching businesses, with a customer base of many of Australia’s larges companies. Lisa coaches entrepreneurs, professional athletes and CEO’s to achieve their best results.

You are Your Most Important Project

I loved the title of this presentation and was really looking forward to it. It didn’t disappoint at all. So much information was finding it’s way into my brain while Lisa was speaking. Her message really resonated with me and made sense immediately. Basically, Lisa spoke about self awareness, critical thinking, and being the best version of ourselves. Lisa examines how humans operate “why do we behave the way we do? Why do we communicate the way we do?”
Following are a few of Lisa’s comments that I thought memorable and also thoughts I had during the session.
*    Resilience is more important than happiness. Happiness is an outcome, but resilience is needed to get that outcome
*    We average 60,000 thoughts per day. We will repeat 95% of them tomorrow. 80% of those thoughts will be negative
*    What does success look like, and what does it mean for me?
*    The traits of emotional healthy people. eg. they seek new experiences
*    When setting goals ask – What do I need to start, stop or continue doing?
*    I believe I’m resilient. I’m able to very quickly decide what I need to do to solve a problem.
*    At the times that I’ve hit rock bottom or felt myself sinking, resilience is what has dragged me back up.
*    Optimism seems to be my default setting

Lisa asked us to think about and to define success. What does success mean to you? After giving this question much thought, I’ve come up with the following as my version of success:

My version of success is being debt free, happy, fit and healthy.
To feel an abundance of love and joy in life means success to me.
The following video is a collage of snippets taken from an International Women’s Day event in 2018.

Have you ever given thought to what success means to you? I’d love to hear your thoughts and promise to reply to all comments made.

I love your version of success, Jennifer. This Excellence Series sounds marvelous. I’m glad you are able to participate and look forward to hearing about the other speakers. I haven’t refined my definition of success, but I would say it involves being healthy, joyful, connecting with others, and continually learning and having new experiences.

I’m pleased you like my version of success Christie. It took me ages to get into a couple of sentences. Your definition of success sounds great to me.

I’ve thought a lot about this question – the defining of success – and I haven’t yet been able to succintly put it into a sentence as you have. At top of mind is relacing my corporate income with income from writing, but more than that is to create a body of work that I’m proud of, and to be physically and financially healthy enough to say yes to opportunities. Yep, it needs a bit of work.

Jo it took me days of thinking to come up with mine. You’ve got the bare bones, won’t take you long now to get it into a couple of sentences.
