Exercising In Winter

July 25, 2021 By nextphaseinfitness 12 Comments

Here we are, in lockdown number 5 in Victoria. Covid has rated its ugly head again so once more we have been lying low and obeying the restrictions. The rule is that we can only go 5km away from home for exercise, so there’s not much that’s exciting about my walks and rides at the moment.

Actually, doing any outside exercise at all, has been quite difficult lately due to the dreadful weather we’ve been hit with. Every day for four weeks has been freezing cold, with rain on most of those days. The best I’ve been able to do lately, is short burts of exercise in between showers. I’ve had to be very careful when out walking, as the bush tracks and rocky paths are very wet and slippery at the moment.

I  have no love of winter at all. I hate that I can’t get out into the garden, as I’m watching the weeds grow taller and taller. As I look at those weeds, growing very thick and high,  I really have no idea how I’m ever going to be able to get them all pulled out. I’ve been locked up inside out of the rain, for days now. To find a positive, I’m actually fortunate that I have lots that I can do inside the house. Firstly there’s cleaning. Well surprise, surprise,  I’ve done none of that. I’ve mainly spent my time on family history, researching and catching up with webinars that I’ve been trying to find time to view. There have also been zoom meetings, so I’ve had more than enough to do.  More than anything, I just want to get outside in the sunshine on my bike, or be able to take Oscar walking in the bush.

I hope these photos show how cold and wet it’s been.

This wattle appeared suddenly on a wet, cold and bleak day. Seeing it made my day, giving me a sign that one day, spring will arrive.

So frosty there! Great pic. I confess I love winter. Snuggly and warm. I resort to yoga/mobility and weights when inside. Happy to kill 35 mins jogging even if i get wet. Those darn weeds. Surely they will shrivel and die In Summer! Fingers crossed. Keep positive

Hi Oam when I lived in town walking in the rain didn’t bother me at all. Out here it’s a battle with slipping and sliding in the mud. Looking forward spring coming.

Jennifer, Sorry to hear about the restrictions and dreadful weather. It will get better as you inch closer to spring. I like your photos, particularly the animal with its wet hair and the bright wattle. #lifethisweek

Thanks Natalie. I love the highland cows. They are our neighbours

It’s so tough to get out when the weather is like that. On the other hand, it does, perhaps, make lockdown a tad easier to hunker down in. That wattle though – I’m sure they’re sent to remind us that there is some gold through the grey. Have a great week.

Oh Jen I feel your pain! I could have written every word of this post. The slippery trails worry me when I do get out. I went out in a brief respite of rain only to be caught in a heavy shower a few minutes later! Take care and hopefully spring won’t be too far away.

Fingers crossed for an early spring Deb. Today was gorgeous and sunny. Feeling much more cheery after a day outside.

You really are losing the lockdown stakes in Victoria, aren’t you? My comiserations. I can imagine how much worse it would be when it’s cold. Good it’s a quick one this time. Sydney is just going from bad to worse on the other hand. Hope the sun shines for you soon!

Yes, somewhere, sometime, nature always turns up reminding us that changes happen. I know it’s hard in cold and midwinter and a lockdown and now we continue ours whilst you are out. Glad you are for sure.
I have to stop myself getting too het up on social media..because I have a LOT of opinions and they are not helping me!!

Thank you for being part of this week’s Life This Week link up. I enjoy seeing the posts linked by the community of friendly bloggers every Monday …and you are one of those. Next week’s optional prompt is Question. I hope to see you then. Denyse.

I’ve been thinking of you Denyse, while Covid has been raging in NSW. I hope cases start to drop soon and the news improves. Take care x
