I Quit Sugar Week 1 & 2

February 18, 2014 By nextphaseinfitness Leave a Comment

069So week 2 is done and so far I’m having no sugar cravings at all.  I’m following Sarah Wilson’s 8 week I Quit Sugar program and doing exactly as she says.  It’s a bit of an experiment, just for 8 weeks, in the hope that it will cure my ever increasing sugar addiction.  secretly, I’m hoping to feel so fantastic at the end of the 8 weeks that I continue on for another 8 weeks. but for now, it’s just one step at a time.

Each week we have a few tasks to do, so that the sugar habit is eventually kicked with ease. This program feels very kind and is not the usual “kick up the rear end” type of thing that I tend to get involved with, and I’m loving that.

WEEK 1 was all about reflecting on the amount of sugar in our diets and where it could be cut back. We were asked to eliminate soft drinks, and sugar in tea and coffee.I don’t drink  soft drink or have sugar in my tea, so neither of these tasks was a problem for me. I did, however, eliminate chocolate! Doesn’ t sound like much I know, but this was a huge ask for me, the long-time chocoholic.

WEEK 2 was the week to go cold turkey and eliminate all sugar from our diet.  Our first task was to eliminate all sugar from our pantry, including fruit. We will not be eating fruit  at all for the next few weeks. The idea is to get our bodies back to a state of not constantly looking for sugar.  We were told we must eat three snacks per day, and these snacks must be protein and  healthy fats. From now on low fat products are out,  as they contain sugar, m and only contribute to the sugar cravings.

So far, so good. For a change, my main focus is not on dieting or losing weight. I am determined to concentrate on eating healthy, unprocessed, wholefoods.

I am determined to kick this sugar habit for once and for all this time.
