This month, I have decided to do my end of month update post in the form of a sentence a day. My reasoning for this is to try to find the joy in each day. During these times of Covid-19 and lockdown, many of us are asking the big question. Will the pandemic ever end? I Remember, as 2020 was coming to an end, there were posts all over social media, being thankful that the year was coming to an end, and 2021 would be better. As it turned out 2021 was no different at all.
For half of July we were in lockdown in Victoria for two weeks, so reading back over what I did each day really does seem like Groundhog Day most days. I’d love to be able to say that I did things that were exciting and fun, but I’d be telling untruths. July was a very quiet month. The many cold and rainy days contributed to this also.
1. From today, I’m only working one day a week, so today is a day off.
2. Heavy rain today. No riding or walking. Just a work day.
3. Baked biscuits today – jam drops and caramel cookies.
4. Thinking about Dad today, as it’s seven years today since he left us.
5. Eleventh Blogiversary for my other blog Tracking Down The Family
6. Very cold day. Couldn’t face going outside. Spent day on my world-wide One Place Study Axedale Then and Now
7. Off to work.
8. Meeting with local community group Axedale Our Town Our Future.
9. Was meant to be night out with friends, but Molly, our almost 19 year old dog, didn’t seem well, so I stayed home with her.
10. Scottish family history research conference on Zoom. But first, a bike ride in rare sunshine.
11. We bought two new guinea fowls today to add to our flock.
12. Another unbearably cold day.
13. Full day in the garden pulling out winter weeds.
14. Bastille Day and remembering Craig on his birthday. He would have been 44 years old, but to me he is forever 18.
15. Covid cases in Victoria. Expecting another lockdown.
16. As expected another lockdown has been announced. This time it’s for 5 days and hopefully no longer
17. Another rainy day.
18. The wattle has flowered, giving hope that this dreadful winter will come to an end.
19. Walking with Oscar.
20. Work today. It’s a rare sunny day, so I’d rather be outside
21. Lockdown has been extended
22. Another inside day, due to bad weather.
23. Made a booking for three days away with friends in early 2022. 183 sleeps to go.

24. Joined two genealogy webinars. Too wet to go outside.
25. Wet and cold. Spent the day pulling out wet weeds. Not fun but had to be done.
26. Started the day with a visit to the doctor for an injection. I don’t do injections well, so a stressful start to the day and the week.
27. Cold but sunny. First sign of sunshine in about four weeks.
28. First day out of lockdown. Took Oscar for a walk in one of our favourite areas, that we haven’t been able to visit, due to the 5km rule.
29. Just work all day.
30. Spent six hours in the garden. The afternoon was spent planning blog posts for an August blog challenge on my family history blog.
31. Lovely surprise to have a sunny day. Heavy rain had been predicted.

I’m so sorry it’s been cold and rainy most days. It’s winter where you are, right? It’s summer here, but we’ve had pretty rainy weather here too. I feel you on being in lockdown and I can totally relate to thinking 2021 would be better at the end of 2020. It isn’t, unfortunately. I’m glad though that with your sentence a day, you’re able to find small joys anyway. Those biscuits you baked on the 3rd sound delicious. #LifeThisWeek
Yes we are in winter Astrid. Another month to go. Let’s hope we can get everyone vaccinated and wave the worst of covid off
Hello Jennifer. It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by, and I feel like I picked the perfect post to jump in on–one that gave me a taste of what you have been up to. I can relate to not getting out much. We’ve had a lot of rain here lately…the only difference is it’s wet and hot here, as we are in the middle of summer. It’s the worst drought on record and yet we are experiencing flooding in many areas from the recent storms. It’s crazy. We also have rising COVID cases. I am very grateful to be fully vaccinated, but also being cautious, as I am aware of the fact that I can still spread it to others. We did go to a play with one of our daughters and her family yesterday. It was so fun to spend time with them…especially the grandchildren! I’m glad you have a trip with friends to look forward to. Enjoy!
Great to have you pop in again Christie. Sounds like your having a Pell of weird weather too. Probably climate change. I’m having my security nd jab in two weeks. I’ll be happy to be fully vaccinated.
I feel your pain with the cold weather Jen! we make the most of any sunshine by getting out for a ride or a walk while we can too. I can also relate to July being a month of memories, as I wrote a similar thing in my recent Bold update – we have lots of memories too. I can understand that Craig will always be 18 to you. Take care and hopefully August will be a bit better for us all.
Let’s hope August brings us more sunny days Deb.
I used to do sentence a day and somehow let the habit slip. Thanks for the reminder. And guinea fowls! I adore guinea fowls! Here’s to a great August.
I must put up a photo of our guides fowls Jo. They’re so cute and funny
I enjoyed reading the mixed fortunes of July. It’s like that at times. I am so sorry you have two sad losses of men from your life in July too. I imagine it creates a sadness all of its own. It was great to see you honouring them in this post.
Whilst we are in lockdown too, it seems so much worse this time because of the bad news the delta strain keeps on and on in the community.
I was a nagging Grandma last night to my 3 adult grandkids, telling them that AZ was available at their local chemists in Sydney in the hope they would try to get vaccinated/
Thank you for linking up this week for #LifeThisWeek. Glad you could join in. Hope to see you next Monday. Cheers, Denyse.
We are in worrying times Denyse. I’m planning on having that nagging conversation with my son on the weekend about AZ. Perhaps now he’s in lockdown on Sunshine Coast he might rush off and do it.
Love the sentence a day idea! Like you my July was a bit of a mixed bag and I spent it all locked down. Hope you’re thriving though Lockdown 6.0 and that you get unlocked soon!
