Kicking off 2017

January 2, 2017 By nextphaseinfitness 1 Comment

Almost a month, since my last post which surprised me. I’ve promised myself to be more consistent in posting in 2017, so hopefully my exploits won’t become boring.

For a change, I can report that I’m pleased with how my training is going. I find I need an event that scares the bejeezus out of me, to be consistent, and to find a reason to jump out of bed early to train. I find early mornings best, before the day gets started.

Since Christmas I’ve done 6 runs of 5k which,I think is a pretty good average. Actually I shouldn’t call them runs, more like run/walk/shuffle/waddle. I haven’t run since January 2015, so find myself having to start over, with run/walk intervals, gradually increasing. But today, I’m very pleased that I ran my first full 5k with no walk intervals.

I had set the goal to do the full run today but was dreading it. I wasn’t sure that I could do it but was also dreading the time it would take me. I’m a dreadfully slow runner, and have felt slower since starting back. But the time was 43 minutes, slow but better than expected. Over the next few weeks, I will be including interval running in the attempt to improve the time.

Counting down to the Grapest 5k Run on February 11.

As a little extra motivation, I’ve registered to do Run Down Under, a virtual around Australia run. I’m able to log my runs on their website and follow my progress as it’s mapped around Australia. They have started me off at Canberra and at the moment I’m running towards Goulburn. Makes running a little more fun perhaps. That’s the hope anyway.
