I wonder what we would have been thinking last Christmas, had we known the challenges we would face in 2020. A pandemic? Surely not. Toilet paper wars? No way. And things just seemed to get worse as the year went on. School children had to learn from home. People had to work from home if it was possible.
Everyone knows just as well as me, the challenges we have faced during this dreadful year. I stopped working in March to self isolate. Living in Victoria, we faced very tough lockdown restrictions.
Due to being self isolated, I haven’t seen any of my family all year. Luckily, I visited my son and grandchildren in Noosa in November 2019. At the time, I made great plans to see them a few times in 2020. That was before we had any idea there was a pandemic coming.
So here we are in December, and, phew we made it! Well I almost made it to the end of the year without any really bad news personally. That was until last Tuesday, when I clumsily tripped and fell down hard on the paving and broke my arm. Of course I did! It’s 2020 after all.
As I sit here, a few days after the fall, writing this post, I am waiting for the hospital to call me in for surgery. I have multiple breaks and shattered bones in my arm, so surgery is needed. I was given an anaesthetic to set the broken bones in a temporary plaster until then. Even in the plaster, my arm is very fragile and I was told not to move around much until the surgery is done.
Highlights
Most of my 2020 highlights have been in relation to my garden. I’ve been lucky enough to spend most of the year in the garden, due to being in isolation. There has been time to complete most jobs on the ‘to-do’ list, so there have been many garden highlights
Finally, in November, with restrictions lifted, I was able to catch up with friends. We hadn’t seen each other since Christmas last year and we all definitely felt due for a fun night together. We did it again in December to celebrate Christmas. It was really great to end the year with two awesome hilarious nights out together.
Because I can only type with one hand, this will be my last post for 2020. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has popped in and read my blog during the year. I appreciate your support more than you could know. It still amazes me that anyone would want to read my blog. My interactions with all of you have been a highlight of 2020. I will be back early in the new year and look forward to catching up after the festivities are over.
My best wishes to everyone for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. For those who don’t celebrate Christmas, I wish you Happy Holidays. Please stay safe.

Merry Christmas Jennifer – so sorry to see you laid up and that break sounds like a beauty! Hope the surgery goes well and your recovery is smooth. Enjoy your celebration of the Christmas season and let others do the work. I’ve been resting up with my torn calf muscle and it feels strange to be sitting around like a queen – but it won’t last forever and we’ll be back buzzing around before we know it! 🙂
Hi Leanne, like you I will be making the most of the down time. Looking on the positives side, it’s a good opportunity to take it easy for a change.
Oh no! So sorry about your arm. I can relate having fallen in September but mine was a fracture and left arm. All the best for the surgery and recovery.
Hi Pam I hope you recovered well from your broken arm. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you. Thanks for popping in during the year
Hi Jen, I do hope you aren’t in too much pain with your arm. It certainly has been tough for many this year, but I am inspired as I read many posts from my blogger friends. You have all found some positives from a horrible year and that shows great resilience. Take care and best wishes for a happier 2021. Hope your surgery goes well. xx #lifethisweek
Hi Sue happily today I’m off to surgery. Thanks for all you’ve done for the group this year. It’s been a great constant in a difficult year
Oh Jen, a broken arm! What rotten luck – very 2020! I hope surgery goes well and you heal quickly. Thanks for sharing all of your blogging gems this year, they always make a great read. Wishing you & yours a peaceful Christmas; let’s hope 2021 brings a return to domestic travel so that friends and family can meet again x
Hi Sue I always feel happy when I see you’ve posted a comment. I hope you have a very happy Christmas and a happy and safe new year. I’m off to surgery now. Catch you in 2021
Jennifer, Sorry to hear about your arm injury. I hope your surgery goes well. I remember reading about your wonderful garden and harvest this year. It’s great that you’ve got to go out and see friends. We’re in lockdown here and social gatherings are banned until Jan. 4 at the moment. Take it easy and enjoy the holidays! #lifethisweek
I didn’t realise you were still in lockdown Natalie. I hope you can enjoy Christmas
Oh no! So sorry to hear about your arm – how very 2020! I hope surgery brings relief and that you heal fast and that you can enjoy a peaceful Christmas and a happy and fun 2021! I keep thinking back to last Christmas and ignorance was definitely bliss, we had no idea what we were in for when 2020 rolled around. On the plus side, there have been pockets of joy this year, I think we’re all grateful for our health and each other and have all shown how resilient we can be. I’ve really enjoyed connecting with you this year – wishing you a safe and happy holiday! See you next year!
Hi Sammie. It is very 2020. New start soon in 2021. See you there
I saw the broken arm. How frustrating. I hope the healing goes smoothly.
And you’re so right. This time last year we had no idea what 2020 had in store for us. Even if we mostly go back to ‘normal’ I think it will have changed us forever.
I agree. It’s going to be covid normal from now on
Merry Christmas, and here’s to a much better 2021. Your thumb looks very swollen, I hope the plaster isn’t too tight. Take care, regards Christina
The swelling is just from the accident. Has gone down now.
Oh Jennifer, not what you wanted to happen at all! I sincerely hope you are recovering well and taking it easy. I’ve enjoyed your blog again this year and look forward to catching up in 2021. #lifethisweek
Thanks Feb. catch you in 2021
I wish your bones a quick healing. Thank you for your posts during the year – and your garden inspiration. I look forward to reconnecting in 2021 – and hope we can all see our families again.
I’ve only just seen your comment Jo. I blame the pain meds. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could see our families again soon. I haven’t seen my grandchildren and my son for well over a year and I’m hanging out for a cuddle from them.
It really was the break that made 2020 even more memorable in so many NOT good ways. I trust, as I read this timeline, that your surgery has happened and that you can recover at home. Not what you hoped for Christmas at all. I do send you my best for a good recovery and there will be some physio in your future too I am sure.
Thank you so much for your blogging friendship, linking up as you have in 2020 and looking forward to more in 2021 when Life This Week begins…the link up I mean on 4 Jan 2021 with “Word of the Year” as an optional prompt. Stay safe and well, and see you soon…Denyse.
