We had our family Christmas celebrations over the weekend at Myrtleford, a three hour drive from home, at the base of the Victorian Alps. It was so good to get together, after not being able to do so all year, due to the pandemic. I wasn’t able to go to our Christmas weekend last year, as I had just broken my arm, and had to stay put at home, to wait for a call up for surgery.
Other than the fact that Myrtleford is all about family, I love going there for the walking, cycling and sightseeing in the mountains. This year was busy with family, so there wasn’t much sightseeing time. However, walks on the rail trail weren’t to be missed. This year was all about the food. Coffees out, dinners out, brekkies out…..you get the idea.
The Murray to Mountains Rail Trail runs through Myrtleford, so I couldn’t wait to get walking. I decided not to bring the bike this time, so there was no cycling.
We stayed at the beautiful Panoramia Villas which are built into a hillside with it’s panoramic views of the Ovens Valley. We’ve stayed there once before and loved it. The owners also own Red Ramia Trading in Myrtleford. This amazing store sells homewares and furniture imported from countries all over the world, particularly Morocco, China, Turkey and India. Red Ramia is an unexpected treasure trove, and worth visiting Myrtleford to check out. Our villa was decorated with various pieces from the store giving it an exotic and original look.
Each year we pick up our Christmas cherries direct from the orchard at Myrtleford. This year we came home through Shepparton which is the stone fruit area. The apricots and peaches, again, direct from the orchard looked and taste amazing.
I would like to send all my very best wishes for Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to all. I hope the New Year is a happy and safe one for you for you and your families. A big thankyou to all who have popped in here during the year, to read my words, and to say hello. I appreciate your support more than you could ever know, and have really enjoyed our interactions during the year. My bloggy friends mean so much to me and I look forward to catching up in 2022 for another year of blog fun and connection. I’m taking time off over the Christmas/New Year period and will be back happy and fresh in early January.
