Recently we took a day trip to Mount Buffalo National Park, which is located in the Victorian Alps. We were visiting family at the time, so it was quite close to where we spent the weekend.
Mount Buffalo is a very high plateau in the National Park, with numerous walking trails, leading around the mountain, and also deeper into the National Park.
We had a great day of walking and sight seeing, but due to my broken arm at the time, it was a more leisurely day than usual.
The beautiful and historic Mount Buffalo Chalet, now deserted, sits at the top. Looking out over the scenic mountains. It’s such a shame to see this beautiful old building sitting empty. Hopefully, one day soon, it might reopen, as there were signs all around, advertising for expressions of interest for a cafe.
I remember being at Mount Buffalo many times during snow season, when my children were young and keen skiers. At that time, the chalet was open, and a very welcoming respite from the cold, snowy conditions.
I’m looking forward to my next visit but not until later in the year as we are heading into snow season when the trails are only suitable for downhill or cross country skiing.
