We made the decision to visit family at Myrtleford, last weekend. which is at the base of the Victorian High Country, and surrounded by mountains which are snow covered in winter. It’s a beautiful part of the world, about three hours drive by car from our house, that I never tire of visiting. We had been very much looking forward to this weekend away, as it was the first time we’ve been anywhere, since Covid struck. It was a double whammy weekend, giving us the opportunity to have a few quiet days away and rare time spent with family.
We spent quite a bit of time walking the Murray to Mountains rail trail which goes through Myrtleford. Of all the rail trails that I’ve so far visited, this is my favourite. It’s very flat and easy to either walk or cycle, but the mountainous scenery make it beautiful, in all seasons.
Other highlights of the weekend were our first coffee in a cafe, and first meal in a restaurant, since February last year, when we went into self isolation. For the first time in what seems forever, we spent time browsing the local stores. It really did feel strange to have these freedoms after so long, and made me appreciate the preciousness of the freedoms we had pre covid-19.

Hi Jennifer – every time I see a blog post about rail trails I get a little bit envious. We don’t have any near us and I think they look like the perfect way to hike or ride – lots of cleared paths and fairly flat for a lot of the journey. This one looks like one I’d really enjoy.
It’s a shame you don’t have Rail trails Leanne. They are also great for families to exercise as they are completely safe
A lot of firsts – and you really do appreciate them. I’m not a cyclist, but this looks like the type of track I’d like to walk – even, well-graded track.
I’m sure you’d love it Jo. Thanks for popping in
What a beautiful trail, Jennifer. I’d love to cycle or walk on it, especially when it comes with mountainous scenery as there is no mountain where I live. #weekendcoffeeshare
I’ve got no doubt you would love it Natalie.
Hi from over The Ditch! Found your lovely blog thanks to Natalie’s coffee share. Hopefully we can get to Australia again one day.
Hi a Barbara. Let’s hope we can all travel soon.
What a lovely time, and a beautiful trail! Thank you so much for sharing!
Thanks for popping in Maria
Very cook venture. Thanks for the post.
Thanks for visiting Antoinette
Hi Jen, this is one of our favourite rail trails too, it’s really quite close to us and until we got our own trail we always went down there for weekends away, before Covid hit of course! I can’t wait until you can come just a bit further north and visit our rail trail. Make sure you let me know when you’re coming! Great to see you out and about.
