My Favourite Podcasts

August 13, 2019 By nextphaseinfitness 10 Comments

One of my favourite things to do is to listen to podcasts. I have a two hour drive to and from work so this gives me lots of time to listen. I really enjoy listening to them, and listen to varying podcasts, both Australian and International, covering my areas of general interest.

Very surprisingly, podcasts have introduced me to true crime. I’m a big reader, but read very little crime or true crime. However, there are a few true crime podcasts that I really enjoy. Some of them are covering unsolved cases that I remember, and others are new to me.

I also love to listen to podcasts on genealogy, inspiration and podcasts that are linked to particular TV series. Listed below are just a few of the podcasts that I enjoy. There are many more, and the list is growing.

Andrew Denton’s Interview

This podcast features the interviews from Andrew Denton’s TV show The Interview.  Denton is known for his unique and honest interview style. The star of the interview is always his subject, never himself. Interviews can be very inspiring, touching and at times, very funny. Included insights and behind the snippets that didn’t get to air.

Australian True Crime Podcast with Meshel Laurie and Emily Webb

Explores some of the darkest corners of human nature, giving voice to the families and friends of victims. Meschel and Emily are very empathetic and show a more human side to crime than what we usually see in the media

Casefile

International true crime series featuring crime from around the world. Most of these crimes, I haven’t previously heard of,  so I find them very gripping and often shocking.

Conversations – ABC Radio

This is the podcast paired with ABC radio’s popular and very well known daily radio program Conversations hosted by Richard Fidler.

Generations Cafe

Modern Genealogy made easy. Professional genealogist Amy Johnson Crow gives tips for modern methods of family history research.

In Black and White with Jen Kelly

Herald Sun columnist tells stories about ordinary people who are put into extraordinary situations. Featuring the forgotten people of Melbourne.

ProBlogger Podcast

Companion to the Problogger website. Darren Rowse has, for many years, been helping people to start their blog, or helping bloggers to improve their blogs. Many tips here for bloggers on this ‘easy to listen to’ podcast

The West Wing Weekly

I’m a huge fan of The West Wing, even after all these years, so it’s no surprise that I would be a fan of this podcast. Each episode focuses on an episode of The West Wing, with hosts discussing how the episode was made, along with behind the scenes snippets. If you’re a fan, this is not to be missed.

The You Project by Craig Harper

Podcast of between 30 minutes and an hour in length, presented by motivational speaker and fitness expert, Craig Harper. Craig interviews high performers in their field, who share their tips and strategies for success,

Your Dream Life Podcast

Interviews with leading entrepreneurs in many different fields, who share with us how they are living their dream life. The main theme here is the importance of tapping into your passion, whatever that may be, and leaping right out of your comfort zone.  The interviewer is Kristina Karlsson, founder of global stationary giant Kiki-K

What’s your favourite podcast? I’d love to hear about it and promise to reply to all comments. I do appreciate it when you join in the conversation.

I love Conversations, and that geneology one sounds interesting. I listen to Joanna Penn’s The Creative Penn and Mark Dawson’s SelfPublishing Formula. I also like Desert Island Discs, Desert Island Dishes, Ideas At The House, The Wheeler Centre, Sydney Writer’s Festival and Jessie Ware’s Table Manners. Visiting from #MLSTL

That’s a lot of podcasts Jennifer! I’ve only just discovered how enjoyable a podcast can be and I listen to a Christian one whenever I’m doing a jigsaw or puzzle that allows me to listen and use my hands at the same time. Thanks for sharing all the ones you find interesting – it’s always good to have an idea of what’s out there.
Thanks for linking up with us at MLSTL and I’ve shared on my SM 🙂

Visiting from #MLSTL. I’ve never listened to Podcasts. I like to read so tend to pick up a book versus listen to anything. I don’t have commute time to fill nor do I spend time on any workout that would link to listening time. Maybe as I continue to build strength training into a habit, I might try and tap into podcasts! No to figure out where to start in that space… not true crime or genealogy for me. Thanks for the inspiration to try it out.
