Photo Challenge – Fallen #SundayStills

February 7, 2021 By nextphaseinfitness 6 Comments

Terri from Second Wind Leisure hosts #SundayStills, with a different prompt for each week. The prompt for the photo challenge this week is Fallen. I’m not a photographer in any way, but I thought I’d just give this challenge a go.

Memorial Garden

The RSL in Bendigo has a really great War Memorial to the Fallen, in the form of a Memorial Garden and Military Vehicle Display. This display is tucked away in the garden behind the RSL which does worry me a bit, as this wonderful memorial is probably not as well known as it should be. If the garden was in a more prominent positon, I’m sure there would be great interest in it.

Many of these vehicles were made at Thales, Bendigo’s own defence machinery and equipment manufacturer.

Centurion Tank nicknamed ‘Bullwinkle’ deployed in the Vietnam War

The Super Marince Spitfire is a scale model of a British Mark V111 Supermarine Spitfire built by Calvert Hargreaves of the Bendigo suburb, Kangaroo Flat. The Spitfire sat on his front lawn for many years. It has been repainted symbolically with the RAAF’s 457 Squadron “sharks teeth”.

The Leopard Main Battle Tank which was used by NATO Forces

These statues are at the main entrance.

What an interesting variety of war memorabilia Jen – and an excellent approach to the challenge. My dad was a huge war memorabilia collector – this brought back memories for me 🙂

Hi Jen, loved your take on the prompt ‘Fallen’ and what a lovely memorial garden to our fallen heroes. Have a great week and see you at next week’s #SundayStills

This was a great way of looking at Fallen Jen, and I did consider it myself for a minute but changed my direction. Your photos are great and show some interesting memorabilia , I especially love the statues. It’s always interesting to see how others interpret the prompt each week, isn’t it? Great to see you joining up again too!
