The prompt for The Sunday Stills Photo Challenge this week is Towering. Terri from Second Wind Leisure hosts Sunday Stills, with a different prompt for each week. . I’m not a photographer but I thought I’d just give it a go. I find this photo challenge opens my eyes to my surroundings, as I think about the prompt for the week ahead. For the challenge this week, I planned my walking route around some of the towers that can be found around Bendigo, where I live. I even found a tower in our back yard.
Towering

With rain coming, it was time to clean up in readiness for the fire season ahead. As you can see from those trees in the background, we are in a severe fire danger area so need to be ever diligent.

One of the towers of the Old Bendigo Gaol. This old historic old Gail has now been transformed into the amazing Ulumbarra Theatre.

The Old Post Office in Bendigo, which was built in the 1880s. Today this historic building houses the Tourist Information Centre. There is also a gallery of products made in Bendigo and an area devoted to changing displays of historical interest. The building is included on the Heritage Register

The Gothic style Sacred Heart Cathedral Bendigo,. This cathedral is unusually large, for a provincial city cathedral. The interior is just as beautiful as the outside. The main spire is 87 metres high.

The poppet head at one of Bendigo’s most popular tourist destinations, the Central Deborah Gold Mine. Tourists can explore the underground tunnels of a real gold mine that operated in the gold rush boom. I’ve done two tours, and they were both amazing experiences.

The poppet head at Rosalind Park in Bendigo. Poppet heads are a familiar sight on the Bendigo landscape, and evidence of the goldrush of the 1850s. A poppet head is an A-Frame at the top of a mine shaft that supports pulleys to winch buckets up from the mine. An amazing view of Bendigo can be seen from the top of this poppet head.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a few of the sights of the beautiful city of Bendigo, where I live.

Great shots, Jen! Unfortunately, I”ve had to prioritise my time and at the moment can’t keep up with SS. I love the older buildings and Bendigo is such an historical place – lots of photo opportunities there. Have a great week. #lifethisweek
Thanks Sue. I’m very time poor myself at the moment so I do understand.
Jennifer, What a wonderful collection of Towers! Very interesting history and beautiful building architecture. Thanks for sharing them. #lifethisweek

Bendigo is such a lovely old town – and perfect for this prompt. Have a fabulous week.
Thanks Jo. I love my city. Pleased you do too
These were great tower photos Jen! I have started a post and your post reminded me that I must finish it. I’ve been to the Deborah gold mine and posed for a photo with the sign, given it’s my name 🙂 A great tour too. I enjoyed visiting Bendigo through your eyes, as I can’t get there from NSW yet!! #lifethisweek
Thanks Deb. Oh yes of course you would have loved Central Deborah Deb. Have a good week
I’ve never been to Bendigo. Those are some gorgeous sights. Especially love the buildings! Hope you have a lovely week ahead!
Bendigo is lovely. Thanks for visiting Sanch
You certainly nailed the prompt! I didn’t realise you lived in Bendigo. What a pretty part of the world, I would love to visit one day.
I’d love to see your beautiful photos of Bendigo Sammie. It’s a very photogenic city
There are some beautiful old buildings in your area Jennifer – I love that they’re looking so well preserved and still serving a useful purpose. Great photos – I always enjoy seeing what each photographer brings to the weekly challenge.
There were good decisions made here long ago not to demolish the old buildings. I love seeing the tales on challenge prompts also
You nailed this prompt. What a place of history you live near.
Thanks for linking up this week, next week, the optional prompt is 39/51 Healthy. 28.9.2020 Hope to see you there too. Denyse.
Thanks Denyse. I’ll be there on Monday
What a beautiful area for a walk, Jen! And for someone who claims not to be a photographer, I think you caught some lovely images. Thank you for sharing them with us. I pray your fire season isn’t terrible like parts of the United States are, or like Australia last year.
Thanks so much Christie. We’ve been watching the dreadful fires in the US an remembering last summer here. Fingers crossed for a calmer summer to come
