Recently, I read a post on The Annoyed Thyroid blog, that piqued my interest. Sammie had written about the 10 Things that make her happy. This reminded me of my post, written in 2017, titled 101 Things in 1001 Days. At the time, this topic was doing the rounds a bit with bloggers, and as I love a list, I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon.
I came up with a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days and started to tick them off. I would occasionally revisit the list to check my progress, and was feeling quite happy with the things that were getting done. I had things on my list that were chores to do in the house and in the garden. There were also travel items on my list. Some were definites, and others were dreams and hopes for some day in the future.
The end date was June 22 2021. I feel quite ashamed to admit that I had forgotten about my 1001 list of things to do. All the drama of the past two years of the pandemic seems to have taken over life, and I haven’t given much thought to anything else. It’s now about 5 months past the end date, and almost the end of 2021, so it’s definitely time to check in on my progress.

I’m a bit shocked that on counting the ticks, I have to give myself a fail in this exercise. My score of things done is 41/101.
The first thing I noticed was that many of the practical things have been completed, but those things that were hopes and dreams, haven’t been done. I put that down to the pandemic thwarting our plans over the past two years. Let’s hope that the next two years give us more freedoms to do whatever it is that we would like to do.

This reminds me to revisit my 101 things…it’s been a while! I know I’ve ticked off plenty of practical things too, but there’s plenty more to go and some which actually might come off the list.
I will look forward to seeing your list Jo. There are more than a few things on my list that I really don’t care about anymore. They seemed so important at the time, but priorities have changed since the pandemic struck us.
Hi, Jennifer – I love how this list includes a variety of great walks. I don’t currently have a Bucket List of 101 things that I would like to do — but if I did, great walks would be on the very top!!
I couldn’t imagine life without a few big walks to look forward to. Hoping I can get to Qld to do some walks in 2022 as my grandchildren are there.
Hi Jennifer – the pandemic certainly messed with a lot of people’s plans and dreams. I’m hoping that it’s just delayed things and eventually you’ll tick off most of the remaining items on the list. I’m kind of relieved that I’m not a bucket list maker because that way I save myself a lot of disappointment!
Leanne I’m really amazed at how unimportant those things on my list now seem, after dealing with the stress of the pandemic and not seeing my grandchildren.
I think you’ve been a bit too hard on yourself! Now that I’ve made my own list of 101 things in 1001 days (I’m actually on version 3) I think it’s less about what you haven’t ticked off and more about what you have. 41 is more than a third which is pretty impressive especially considering a huge chunk of that time was spent in lockdown/in the grip of a global pandemic. High five to you! Will you make a new list?
Thanks Sammie. I haven’t really thought of a new list yet. At the moment dealing with covid and lockdowns and lockouts are enough to stress about.
I was going to say that you definitely need to cut yourself some slack on a lot of the aspirational activities given the challenges we’ve had re travel and freedom of movement over the past two years.
I still find it bizarre that none of this was imaginable two years ago and in many ways it’s become the new normal. And now of course, every time things look more positive something (like this latest strain of Covid) rears its ugly head.
I know exactly what you mean Deb. Bizarre is the perfect word for it. In 2019 we would never have imagined what was coming.
To me, it looks like you’ve managed to get lots done from this list! But I agree that the pandemic has taken over a lot of our minds, and disrupted plans.
Now you’ve inspired me to make a list too – perhaps a list of things I want to do during 2022, and things that are possible despite the Covid threat.
That’s a great idea Susanne. I’d love to see your list.
Hi Jen, your list is very fulsome and I admire your commitment! I agree the pandemic has really thrown many wish lists into disarray. Hopefully we can get back to some form of normal soon. Hope you can come up to our rail trail one day soon and add that to your series 🙂
I should have your rail trail on my list Deb, as it’s definitely on my mental list.
I heard of this idea but never created my own. I liked how you had practical things on it! and some pretty hefty activities as well. I’m not at all sure what my own list would look like. I’m a bit afraid to try and create one and I’m a list lover!
As a list lover 101 Things was perfect for me. Now I just have to try not to take it too seriously.
Ah no to failing…goodness me, with so many things reliant on situations about travel never changing, it was “not your fault”.
I admit I am not a list maker of this kind. I do like to have some plans but I am also someone who would rather not be too closely sticking to a list to save any kind of disappointment. I think I have mentioned it to others that as a school principal one of the many tasks included lots of lists for goals etc to be achieved, and how and what, when etc. This put me off that kind of pressure forever. It’s another reason that for me, diets and exercise rules don’t work. However, tiny changes I make for myself do, and that is me in control, not an external party so to speak.
Off the track there, sorry!
You do an amazing job with geneology Jennifer. Go girl.
It was great reading your post today after linking up for #LifeThisWeek on my blog. Thank you! I can’t believe we are in December! Now “only” 3 more Mondays for #lifethisweek in 2021. See you next week too I hope. Denyse.
Thanks for your comments Denyse.
Hi Jen, what a great and varied list and you are certainly ticking off the boxes. It is a great way to think about all the things you would like to do, make a list and do them. We have Tassie on our list to visit, we had planned and booked this year but had to cancel so fingers crossed for 2022. The Genealogy list is interesting and something that I’ve started to take more of an interest in myself. Keep ticking off the boxes. Each tick feels very satisfying. #weekendcoffeeshare
Hi Sue let’s cross our fingers that 2022 is much better than the last two years.
Jennifer, When you set aside the items that require travel or overnight stays, you’ve achieved a lot on your list. Completing three consecutive A-Z blogging challenges is impressive. I’m interested in your Find a House Sitter item. How do you go about looking for a housesitter? Thank you for linking up with #weekendcoffeeshare
Natalie house sitting seems to be quite popular amongst retirees who travel Australia and the world by housesitting. There is a organisation that they join who match people up. The house owner pays a subscription but it’s free for the sitter. We haven’t used it yet but hope to in the future.
That’s a great list and as long as it’s flexible, it’s fun to do. I used to do 30 by 30, 35 by 35, and then a 40 by 40 but I’ve let go of the 40 by 40 list and don’t think I’ll get them done by the time I turn 40. Still, it’s fun to see how you go in life
I do love a list Sanch.
