The message below, from WordPress, alerted me to this huge milestone, that I’d almost missed. Next Phase in Fitness and Life has turned 7 years old! Just writing that seems really strange to me. When I started this little blog, about my adventures in fitness, I had no idea that it would still be going […]
Finisterre – 2 years ago
Two years ago today, I walked into Finisterre to complete 1018 kms walking the Camino de Santiago, across Spain. I just thought I would mention it today, as I didn’t say anything much about it at the time. The end of the Camino for me was very much an anti climax and I still think […]
Camino de Santiago – Memories of day 2 – 2014
So another anniversary has rolled around. It is now two years since I started out on my hike of over 1000k, on The CAMINO DE SANTIAGO, starting in the south of France, crossing the Pyrenees mountain range, and across Spain to the coast. I’m still quite amazed that I did it without hiccup. There were […]
Joyful Inspiration
Find a place inside where there’s joy and the joy will burn out the pain – Joseph Campbell, an American Mythologist. Jane Blanchard, who wrote an excellent book about the Camino, Women of the way, tweeted the above piece of inspiration. The first time I read it, a couple of years ago, this quote really […]
Compostela & Certificate of Distance

Here are my certificates that I collected on arrival at Santiago today. I did get a kick out of seeing my name in Latin. I couldn’t really get excited about the […]
Day 31 Hello Santiago
Started early and walked almost 35k today to make it to Santiago in the early afternoon. The legs were feeling really heavy and sluggish today, but I suppose that’s just due to walking every day. The hills wouldn’t be helping either, as they are much tougher than the hills at home. Santiago is officially the […]
Day 30 Palas de Rei to Arzua
34k today. A bit further than the guide book recommends, but I want to get to Santiago tomorrow, one day earlier than expected. Walking today was fairly fast, a bit up and down at the start followed by a long flat stretch with a small hill at the end. Today I really hit the jackpot […]
Day 28 Triacastela to Sarria
Yet another hilly hill to start the day, followed by a very steep downhill, followed by flat for most of the day. Walking was much easier today – only 11% on loose paths, the rest mainly on quiet roads.
