The You Project Conference

February 25, 2020 By nextphaseinfitness 10 Comments

About The You Project Conference

This conference is a by-product of The You Project Podcast (one of Australia’s highest rating education podcasts) and some consistent encouragement from our listening audience to create a one-day event featuring some of our most popular and inspiring guests. While there will be a broad cross-section of themes and topics, the general theme for the day is self-management on a physical, mental, emotional, social, financial and practical level. That is, ‘how do I manage me in the messy-ness and mayhem of my life?’ – https://www.craigharper.net/

The conference was held at Deakin University, Burwood, which required me to drive two and a half hours to get there. I didn’t mind the drive at all as I knew the conference would be worth the trip. The You Project Podcast sits at no. 2 on the best podcasts lists and is my favourite. I wouldn’t miss an episode. The speakers at the conference were some of the popular guests who feature on the podcast.

Speakers

There were eight guest speakers who each spoke for about 45 minutes. The host of The You Project  Craig Harper, spoke briefly between each speaker and did a coaching session at the end of the day, which was another highlight.

Paul Taylor: Neuroscientist, Nutritionist, and Exercise Physiologist – MindBodyBrain Performance Institute

Bianca Chatfield: Aussie Netballer, TV Host, Author, Podcaster   – Bianca Chatfield

Brad McEwan: Channel Ten Host, Speaker, Ripping Fella) – Media Trainer | Brad McEwan

Jason Cunningham Media Money Bloke, Speaker, Author – The Practice

Steph Prem: Olympian, Entrepreneur, Fitness Guru – Studio PP

Mick Hall: Addiction Specialist, Entrepreneur, Radio Host –  DayHab | Melbourne & Gold Coast Rehab | Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation

Pete Shepherd High Performance Coach, Speaker, Business Consultant – Human Periscope

Cameron Schwab Ex CEO of Richmond, Melbourne and Fremantle Football Clubs – designCEO | Courageous, Confident & Creative Leaders

The above speakers all had riveting stories to tell about their success and failures in business, sport and life. These stories were very relatable to every day life. I was able to relate many of the stories and anecdotes to my life in fitness and my struggles at the moment, due to my knee injury. I came away feeling that my batteries, which had been running quite low, were recharged. I do feel now that I’m ready to get on with things without making pathetic excuses due to the injury.

I’d love to be able to choose a favourite from these speakers, but find it is impossible. I learned something or was reminded of something, from each speaker that I will take away and implement into my life. I found it really beneficial to take a day out from the busy-ness of life to focus, with no distractions, on the next stage of my life.

Jo, Craig Harper was huge in the fitness industry. He devised the first qualification course for gym instructors back in the 80s and owned PT studios all over Melbourne before PT was a thing. I think you’d enjoy his podcast. He talks about mindset and headspace most relating it to fitness, business and life in general.

What a great sounding and beneficial conference Jennifer and it’s so good that you managed to get a lot out of it. It’s always fabulous to have your batteries recharged this way. It must have been good if you couldn’t pick a favourite speaker!
