As you know, I do love a fitness challenge, be it a gym challenge, walking, cycling or occasionally swimming. I have posted previously about my participation in Maxine’s Challenge in 2019.
The things I love about a fitness challenge with an end time, are the goal setting, planning, preparation and scheduling. Of course, there is also the increased focus, commitment and ‘no excuses’ attitude that a fitness challenge brings.
Recently, the two March challenges below have piqued my interest. They are both supporting worthy causes and would be very worthwhile fitness challenges. I haven’t decided yet, which I will do in March, but I will definitely be doing one of these challenges.
The March Charge
The March Charge is not a race. It is a personal fitness challenge and a fundraiser for the Cancer Council of Australia. Their vision is to minimise the threat of cancer for all Australians, through successful prevention, best treatment and support. Money raised for the Cancer Council supports research, information, support, prevention and advocacy. Many of us, including me, have lost family members to cancer, and would understand the importance of raising funds to continue research into this dreadful disease.
This challenge is a walking or running challenge, which is perfect to do solo. If you prefer, you could get your friends and family together and form a team, to add to the fun and motivation. Walk or run whenever you like, at times to suit you, and log your kilometres onto your personal profile page.
When you register, you create a profile and set your goal. You can choose any number of kilometres as your goal, depending on your fitness level and walking experience. Each time you walk, just update your distance walked onto the website.
One third of cancers can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle; including by being physically active every day, enjoying a healthy diet and maintaining a healthy body weight. Every year in Australia around 37,000 cancer cases could be avoided by prevention alone. In response to this, we created The March Charge. We’re taking a head on approach to beating cancer and for the whole month of March we’re telling cancer where to go. By taking part, you’ll be reducing your cancer risk, promoting physical activity and helping raise vital funds for cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support. Feel the charge you get when you tell cancer where to go. Walk or run and raise funds for cancer – www.themarchcharge.com.au
Laps for Life
Swim to save lives in March. Laps for Life is an event that can be done individually or as a team. Set yourself a goal and log your laps to achieve your fitness goals. Your progress can be tracked through your personal profile on the website. This challenge can be done at your home or local swimming pool or in the ocean. Participants can swim as often as they would like and are able to regularly log their distance during the month, so that their supporters can follow their progress.
This swim supports ReachOut, which is Australia’s leading digital youth mental health service, assisting young Australians who experience mental health difficulties. Suicide remains the leading cause of death of young people, with more young people taking their own lives than dying on the roads in car accidents.
ReachOut is an online service which is available 24/7 to be there for young people in their time of need, with tools, tips and advice for everything from dealing with exam stress to understanding how to get help for an issue that’s worrying them.
By taking up this challenge and swimming in March, you can have a huge impact on the lives of our young people.
COMMITMENT – NO EXCUSES
What you are doing for exercise at the moment? I’d love to hear about your activites and promise to reply to all comments.
*Please note: I receive no inducements at all for my comments about these challenges.
Hi Jen, I’ve seen these two challenges and it is a great way to combine fitness and a goal to work towards with doing good for others. My daughter and I have entered the International Women’s Day Run in March and of course we have entered the Mother’s Day Classic. We run this every year in memory of my Mum, Rachel’s Nan, who died from breast cancer in 1986. Thanks for sharing at #MLSTL and have a great week! x
Best wishes for those two runs Sue. Both great causes. I’ve done s few Mothwrs Day Classics in the past. It’s a great well organised event
Thanks for making us aware of these Jennifer. I think it’s great when people can do something they enjoy and use it to raise funds for a worthy cause.
MLSTL and I’ve shared on my SM 🙂
Thanks for dropping by Leanne. I agree it’s a great combination
