Walktober

November 8, 2012 By nextphaseinfitness Leave a Comment

The month of October was designated Walktober by Physical Activity Australia to encourage more people to become more active. Teams were formed and logged their steps or kms walked every day during October. Myself and 10 friends formed a team which we named  Fit’n’Fab Walkers. Our main aim was to use this challenge as motivation to walk every day. There were various levels of fitness amongst us, but we all pushed ourselves and achieved fantastic results.

As a team we walked 1552 kms. According to the website that is equal to 179.055 slices of mudcake.  We walked off 77,625 calories.

I managed to walk 256.5 kms, the equivalent of 29.583 slices of mudcake, and walked off 12,825 calories.

During the 31 days of October, Walktober, including all participants in all teams have walked 79,749 kms, the equivalent of 9197.718 slices of mudcake. This mammoth effort burnt off 3987450 calories. There were 162 teams and 1026 participants who took on the challenge.

Walktober came at an opportune for us as we were training for the Seven Bridges Walk  which kept us motivated to get out there burning up those calories and walking away those slices of mudcake.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this challenge. I hope it’s helped to raise awareness of how it’s always possible to do more than we think we are capable of doing.
