Over Xmas, I gave myself time off weight training. But today, the last day off, I have been thinking about how much I’ve missed it.
I usually start the day when the alarm goes off at 5.20am and hit the homegym.
As I’ve committed to doing Run 4 Kids New Year Virtual Run, during the month of January, the session will start with a 5k run on the treadmill. I have a new program drawn up on the whiteboard and am feeling very excited to get it started.
Here are some of the reasons that I feel weight training is so beneficial to our health:
Toning – It’s a myth that heavy weights are required. Training consistently with light weights will definitely tone.
Fitness – The metabolism works fast after weight training for a long period of time
Weight control – Because the metabolism is increased, calories continue to be burnt for a long period of time after a weights session.
Feeling of wellbeing – I know for a fact that I feel much better when consistently weight training.
Decrease in risk of injury – Strong muscles are less inclined to become injured. Falls tend to occur less often.
So for all the reasons listed above, I cannot wait to get into the gym tomorrow and toss some iron around.
