We’re having another winter getaway to the beach. This time we’ve come to check out Port Nepean and the Port Nepean National Park. We were really interested to see Fort Nepean, as well as exploring the walking trails around the area. Actually, Fort Nepean was the main reason for our visit.
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by a road sign, telling us that Fort Nepean is closed for two months, for road works. There was no way at all to get to Fort Nepean, even via the walking trails.
After we recovered from our disappointment, we realised this was an opportunity. We would just have to come back for a weekend getaway in the spring, when everything opens again.
Firstly, we did some investigating around the Quarantine Station, and then headed off on the walking trails around the national park and along the coast
It was a very cold, windy day, but the walk was protected in most places. We did almost get blown off our feet, when we walked out to the beach or to the lookouts. But really, we forgot about the cold, as we looked at the amazing views, the beach and the coastline.
After we finished walking at Port Nepean, we caught the ferry to Queenscliff, a 40 minute trip. We didn’t do much in Queenscliff, except stop for lunch and walk around the marina and town.
We have been on annual leave from work, for the past week and have had a wonderful time, taking two short breaks.
Have you taken a short break lately? Where did you go? I’d love to hear about it.
